Company shares results of confidential employee survey used to understand firms’ pandemic response

Swift Bunny, providers of Ingage™, the apartment industry’s first data-driven employee lifecycle feedback system, today released the Multifamily COVID-19 Employee Impact Study. The study summarizes the results of the Swift Bunny COVID-19 Employee Check-In Survey conducted this spring to enable multifamily owners and operators to better understand and support their employees during the pandemic. 28 management companies and more than 3,400 multifamily employees participated. The survey gathered employee perceptions on company communication, executive leadership, business stability, team support, and well-being.

Employees were both candid in their criticism and generous in their praise of companies’ support for their workforce during the initial response to the crisis. For example, more than 85% of respondents agree they feel well-informed about what their company is doing regarding COVID-19. Said one respondent, “The support from the home office team has been awesome. Policies and procedures have been put into place really quickly so there isn’t any guesswork.”

However, almost 15% of employees do not agree that company leaders were visible and communicative during the pandemic. Two consistent themes arose in comments: a perception that leaders do not respect the employees’ time and effort, and a perception that leaders are out of touch regarding the challenges front line workers are actually managing on a daily basis. Said one respondent, “Since leadership gets to stay at home, they don’t know what the stress is actually like on the front-lines. It’s easy for them to give a lot of additional work from the comfort and safety of their homes.”

Joe Bailey, Swift Bunny’s founder and Chief Executive Officer, remarked, “The survey results offer valuable a reinforcement on what companies are doing well in their employees’ eyes, and also reveal some vulnerabilities. We think of those as opportunities for improvement.” Added Tammy Chivers Baker, Swift Bunny’s Director of Product Development, “The results highlight the urgent need for companies to showcase their compassion for their front-line team members, strengthen employee engagement, and support their associates through this crisis.”

Swift Bunny’s leadership team will conduct a panel discussion of the study’s results in a complimentary webinar on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at 12 PM ET. Registration information can be found here.

The company’s next complimentary employee survey, the Multifamily COVID-19 Getting Back to Work Employee Survey, is now underway. Multifamily leaders who are interested in participating are invited to learn more here.
