Chief Research Officer, Partner

Ask Doug Miller if there’s a famous quote out there that inspires him, and his eyes light up. “I have a few, but my two favorites are from Calvin Coolidge (you know, our 30th president) and Lloyd Christmas (you know, from Dumb and Dumber). Coolidge is known for having said, among other things of course, that “nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. The slogan, ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” Yes, that’s very inspirational and all, but talk about genius…this is it:

Lloyd Christmas: What are the chances of a guy like you and a girl like me…ending up together?

Mary Swanson: Not good.

Lloyd Christmas: Not good like one in a hundred?

Mary Swanson: I’d say more like one in a million.

Lloyd Christmas: So you’re telling me there’s a chance?

That really sums up the way Doug sees…well, everything. As Swift Bunny’s CRO, and self-described “research nerd behind the curtain,” Doug runs, reads, practices his stand-up routines, dotes on his two dogs, and spends as much time as he can with his two sons. In his free time, he oversees all our survey systems, as well as performing special analyses of the survey results to identify trends, strengths and challenges. What kind of bunny is Doug? “A bit of Bugs,” he says. “Like me, he’s kind of known for asking probing questions.” And Doug is right. After all, what could be more probing than, “what’s up, doc?”

Doug started his career in multifamily in the early-1980s, learning through his earlier life in the pressure cooker world of advertising that “there’s more to life than just cranking out work and meeting deadlines.” He then spent over a decade as Director of Marketing for several regional and NMHC Top 50 management companies. These experiences contributed to a personal mission of “finding the people I respect and want to spend my working life with and THEN deciding what we would do together.” That mission has led him here, where he works with people who he adores, people, he says, “whose DNA is built upon caring.”

Doug came our way through SatisFacts (which he founded and sold to Internet Brands, owner of ApartmentRatings.com), and then, ManagInc (which he also founded.) Over his multifamily career, Doug earned the reputation as an industry authority on employee and resident retention, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and reputation management.

So, while Doug’s qualifications, experience, and unparalleled industry knowledge have certainly contributed to his being here, there’s much more to Doug than that. To learn more, ask him to do his stand-up bit. You’ll see what we mean.
